Maghreb Center-Youth Committee
Although young people represent the majority of the Maghreb population, they have experienced reduced social and economic participation. The full integration of youth in the development process is hindered, while also depriving the Maghreb of the potential of an essential component of its population. Today, young people constitute a source of knowledge and innovation, and when harnessed effectively, provide an excellent resource and opportunity to make a vital contribution to the youth agenda and other development issues.
The Youth Committee is part of the Maghreb Center and seeks to foster discussion and action on critical youth issues facing the Maghreb countries. The Youth committee proposes discussion topics and projects, organizes conferences, and other activities pertaining to the role of youth in the development of the Maghreb. The Youth Committee joins young activists and scholars in the US with Maghrebi counterparts in each country to support an active debate at the level of youth structures. It will both serve as an advocacy platform and a medium for youth action. The Youth Committee will also strive to promote exchanges and internships in the US for young Maghrebi, and in North Africa for young Americans.
We are looking for motivated young people who want to make a difference. If you would like to join the Maghreb Center-Youth Committee and get involved, please contact the program manager Leila Hanafi (bio), with your ideas and suggestions (including for related projects) at administration@maghrebcenter.org, with 'Maghreb Youth' as the subject.
