In
recent years Mauritania has successfully reduced the proportion of the
population living below the national poverty line, improved access to
education and addressed gender inequalities in primary school
enrollment. Involving youth--70% of the population-- and women in
development strategies is fundamental to sustaining and building upon
these achievements. Improving access to information and educational
opportunities ensures that youth and women are empowered to contribute
to Mauritania’s attainment of several MDGs, and build a more prosperous
future.
